PONTIAC, Mich. – Oakland County Sheriff's deputies surrounded a home for hours Monday after a report of shots fired inside the house on Hazel Avenue near Telegraph Road and Voorheis Street.
Sheriff's deputies believed the gunman still was inside the home. However, upon entering the home Monday afternoon, it appeared the alleged gunman had left before police arrived on the scene.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the home about 10:30 a.m. in response to reports of gunfire. A woman and child who had been in the house escaped unharmed. Deputies say the woman's boyfriend fired a shot at her but missed.
"She and her brother were able to get out of the house and fled the scene," said Cpt. Chris Wundrach, of the Oakland County Sheriff's Department. "When officers arrived on scene they believed the suspect was still in the house."
Homes immediately near the scene were evacuated. Deputies remained in an apparent standoff with the man, who they believed was still inside the home, but no one was inside when a SWAT team entered Monday afternoon.
"Hey, it's part of the job. No one got hurt. So, everyone's coming out safely and we're good," said Wundrach.
The alleged gunman has not been located. Sheriff's deputies are searching for him.
