BAY CITY, Mich. – A benefit will be held Wednesday at UDetroit Bar and Grille for a Bay City man who donated his kidney to a 10-year-old girl.
Brian Martindale, who gave his kidney to 10-year-old Jessica Schwerin, will be at the benefit, along with Schwerin and her mother, Stacey Schwerin.

Stacey said her daughter Jessica needed a new kidney back in the fall after she was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure, but the staff at a hospital in Ann Arbor told her it would take some time to get one.
Taking matter into her own hands, Schwerin said she stood on a busy street and held up a sign that read "Help Me! My daughter needs a kidney. I can't lose her!"

Then, the day before Thanksgiving, Schwerin was given a call back from the hospital saying they had found a donor. That donor turned out to be Martindale.
Event organizers said the benefit is being held to help "defray costs of a random act of kindness."
Detroit band LectricKramer will also make a special appearance at the benefit. The band says they have been wearing the donor's line of Karma shirts across the country while on tour.
The benefit will begin at 6 pm Wednesday at UDetroit Bar and Grille, located at 1427 Randolph Street in Harmonie Park. A "webathon" phone number will also be on the webcast on their website for any donation that would like to be made throughout the night.
Costing $20 at the door, food, drink specials and live entertainment will be featured at the benefit.
