Armada says farewell to April Millsap

MACDONALD, LOCAL 4. Steve: A LOT TO SORT OUT THERE. Ruth: THANKS, MARA. MANY IN THE HEARTBROKEN COMMUNITY OF ARMADA GATHERED TO SAY GOOD-BYE TO APRIL MILLSAP, THE 14-YEAR-OLD FOUND MURDERED ALONG A WALKING PATH JUST OVER A WEEK AGO WAS LAID TO REST TODAY. OUR PRIYA MANN IS LIVE IN ARMADA WITH MORE ON THAT PART OF THE STORY. PRIYA? Priya: IT'S TRAGIC WHEN YOU THINK OF ALL THE MILESTONES APRIL WILL MISS OUT ON. SHE WON'T GO TO HIGH SCHOOL OR PROM. SHE WAS ACTIVE IN HER YOUTH MINISTRY. SHE WAS JUST CONFIRMED IN MAY. NOW, TWO MONTHS LATER, SHE LEFT ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH FOR THE LAST TIME. ON A BEAUTIFUL SUMMER DAY, GRIEF HUNG HEAVY IN THE AIR. A FINALLY GOOD-BYE TO A GIRL WHO SHOULD HAVE BEEN GETTING READY TO START HIGH SCHOOL BEING LAID TO REST. HER MOTHER WAS WRAPPED IN LOVING EMBRACES. THAT LOVE, THE ONLY THING THAT'S LEFT AFTER HER ONLY CHILD WAS TAKEN. I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD BE ANYTHING MY KIDS WOULD HAVE TO UNDERSTAND AND DEAL WITH DIRECTLY. A LOT OF PRAYER, A LOT OF TEARS, A LOT OF HUGS, A LOT OF LOVE. Priya: THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WEARING PINK, APRIL'S FAVORITE COLOR. IT'S CLEAR HER DEATH HAS DEVASTATED FRIENDS AND CLASSMATES, AN ENTIRE TOWN LEFT IN MOURNING. THE FUNERAL IS A GOOD THING FOR EVERYBODY TO GET THEIR GRIEF OUT. Priya: IT'S BEEN 8 DAYS SINCE HER BODY WAS FOUND ALONG THE TRAIL AND MORE 600 LEADS TO INVESTIGATE. ARMADA HAS BEEN COVERED WITH PINK RIBBONS, A SYMBOL OF SOLIDARITY FOR A FAMILY RIPPED APART. I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE. I CAN'T EVEN PUT MYSELF IN THOSE SHOES. THAT'S WHY I WANTED TO BE HERE TO SUPPORT HER. Priya: RIBBONS HERE IN ARMADA AND NOT JUST HERE, STRETCHING ALL THE WAY TO PORT HURON BY THE BLUEWATER BRIDGE. RESIDENTS ARE TYING RIBBONS THERE TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE FAMILY. AND THIS IS STILL VERY MUCH AN ACTIVE INVESTIGATION. POLICE TELLING ME THEY WILL NOT LEAVE UNTIL THEY FIND APRIL'S KILLER. REPORTING LIVE FROM ARMADA, I'M PRIYA MANN, LOCAL 4. Ruth: PRIYA, WE SAW A LOT OF POLICE ACTIVITY ON WEDNESDAY AT THAT HOUSE IN GOODELLS, WHAT'S COME OF THAT? Priya: LOTS BEEN MADE OF THOSE ARRESTS. TWO MEN, A FATHER AND SON, TAKEN FROM THAT HOME. THEY WERE ARRAIGNED TODAY AND FACING A NUMBER OF DRUG CHARGES. POLICE WERE TELLING ME WHILE THEY EXECUTED THE SEALED SEARCH WARRANT ALONG WITH THE INVESTIGATION FOR APRIL MILLSAP'S KILLER, AT THIS TIME THEY'VE RULED OUT THOSE TWO SUSPECTS. BACK TO YOU. RUTH: LET'S HOPE THAT SOME OF THE HUNDREDS OF LEADS THEY'RE INVESTIGATING RIGHT NOW WILL
