Body found bound, burned in driveway of home on Alma Avenue in Detroit

Police say body burned beyond recognition

DETROIT – A body was found bound and burned Wednesday morning in the driveway of a burning vacant house on Alma Avenue near Chalmers Street on Detroit's east side.

UPDATE: Burned body with bound hands, feet found on Detroit's east side

Detroit police and firefighters were at the scene about 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. They had the corner of Alma and Celestine avenues blocked off with tape. Firefighters were working to contain the flames at the vacant house.

Police originally said the body is a woman's but are now retracting that statement, saying the body is burned so badly they do not know the sex of the victim at this point.

The emergency call originally was made about an apartment fire. However, most of the homes in the immediate area are vacant.

Police are investigating.
