Authorities ID body found in rolled up carpet on Detroit's west side

Victim is 44-year-old Maurice Varner

DETROIT – The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office has identified a body  that was discovered early Monday morning rolled up in a carpet on Detroit's west side. 

The victim is Maurice Varner, 44. 

His death was ruled a homicide by multiple sharp force and blunt force trauma. 

The body, which was wrapped in plastic and the carpet, was found behind a vacant party store near Fenkell and Livernois avenues. 

An anonymous call came into police Sunday night and the caller said a body could be found at the location.

Detroit police released a photo of a silver car that was scene leaving the scene of where the body was found. 

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit police.
