Burial planned for baby found dead at Roseville recycling center

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The planning of a burial is underway for the baby that was found dead at a Roseville recycling center.

Clinton Township and Macomb County leaders are holding a special burial for the baby dedicated to children at Resurrection Cemetery.

"It is very emotional," said Bob Cannon, Clinton Township supervisor. "The entire county is upset about it. The entire county is stepping up to the plate."

Cannon has been upset about the awful incident ever since the baby's remains were found at the recycling center. He and the township's attorney came up with the idea to give the baby a proper burial at the Resurrection Cemetery across from the Clinton Township offices.

The cemetery first donated a plot to the cause. Then Kahl Funeral Home donated a casket.

The supervisor mentioned the growing efforts at his State of the Township speech this week. The Clinton Township firefighter's union agreed to share costs for a headstone with the Rizzo Recycling Company. Both McLaren Hospital and Henry Ford Hospital presidents offered to pick up any additional costs.

A legal guardian must be named to make all of this preparation come to fruition. But the baby that was thrown away has been given a name by the medical examiner: Alexander Macomb, after the founder of Macomb County.

"This baby belongs to all of us instead of nobody, and we're glad to take that baby on," he said.

The burial will be scheduled once the coroner released the baby's remains.
