Canton Urgent Care doctor accused of health care fraud

Bassel Altantawi billed Medicaid, others for services he didn't provide, AG says

LANSING, Mich. – A doctor at Canton Urgent Care is facing 22 fraud charges for allegedly billing Medicaid and Blue Cross Blue Shield for services he didn't provide.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette on Tuesday announced the charges for Dr. Bassel Altantawi, 45, of Farmington Hills. Altantawi is facing nine counts of Medicaid fraud, 12 counts of health care fraud, and one count of continuing criminal enterprise.

Altantawi is the only practicing physician at Canton Urgent Care, which is 43033 Ford Rd. in Canton.

Canton Township Police contacted Schuette's Health Care Fraud Division after receiving a complaint that Altantawi was allegedly billing for services not rendered.

Altantawi was arraigned before Judge Richard Ball and released on $25,000 personal bond. 

Any patient who was seen by Dr. Altantawi and who believes that he billed for services never provided is encouraged to call the Health Care Fraud Division hotline at 1-800-24-ABUSE.
