Car crashes on Detroit's west side, hits 2 bicyclists

Witnesses say van to blame for cutting off car that veered into bicyclists

DETROIT – Two bicyclists were rushed to the hospital Wednesday after they were hit by a car that crashed over a small landscaping wall on Detroit's west side.

The crash happened at West McNichols Road and Parkside Street.

The victims, Stephanie White and Mike Greer were part of the Biking Belle Isle riding group.

Witness Kenneth Reid said the group was waiting to cross McNichols when a van unexpectedly made a turn in front of a Pontiac Grand Prix off, forcing it to veer and hit the bicyclists.

“That car hit our front two riders. They’re both in what looks to be critical condition. It’s incredibly, incredibly bad. We’re all crying and praying for them. It was devastating, that’s all I can tell you," Reid said.

Both drivers remained on the scene.
