Chief: Suspect in Wayne State officer's shooting has history of assaulting police

DETROIT – A man suspected of shooting a Wayne State University police officer Tuesday night has a history of assaulting police officers, police said. 

Wayne State University Police Chief Anthony Holt said in 2014 the suspect was charged with resisting and disrupting when an officer was injured during a scuffle with him. Holt said he was disorderly while walking into traffic and blocking the street.

"We had previous contact with the suspect for assaultive behavior against police officers," said Holt. "He is a known person to us."

Officer Collin Rose was investigating car break-ins in Detroit's Woodbridge neighborhood when was shot as he tried to stop a person on a bicycle. He was shot in the head. He is on life support at Detroit Receiving Hospital. 

"He was about to investigate and question a suspect, and shortly after he was shot in the head," said Holt. 

The suspect was arrested about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
