Clay Township police say woman comes forward in buried baby case Remains found Sunday in shallow grave No description found
CLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Clay Township police say a woman has come forward claiming she gave birth to a newborn who was found buried in a shallow grave.
In a statement on Wednesday, Police Chief Don Drake said the woman came to the police department on Monday and gave specific details as to what had happened. Drake said investigators are working to confirm that the woman is in fact the newborn's mother.
The newborn was found Sunday evening in the 9300 block of Stone Road by a man who was doing yard work.
"I dug up a plastic container and there was a baby in it," the man is heard telling a 911 operator. "A human baby."
A cause of death has not yet been released.
Drake said the case will be turned over to the St. Clair County prosecutor's office.
