Commission approves controversial brewery in Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Many Royal Oak residents have been fighting a proposal tooth and nail, saying the city already has plenty of bars, but the commission voted Monday night to approve a new brewery.

Royal Oak is known for its nightlife. Its bars and restaurants bring in big crowds, and more hot spots could soon be on the way. That has some concerned about the future of the city, bringing more headaches for police.

But at the packed meeting, the discussion centered on approving new liquor licenses and rezoning a building on Lincoln, so it could be turned into a microbrewery and tasting room.

Many business owners in town said they welcome more bars, restaurants and customers.
