Coney Island employees, owner robbed on Detroit's west side

Police search for 4 armed robbers

DETROIT – Workers at a Coney Island on Detroit's west side had no idea what they were in for as they were closing up the restaurant Wednesday night.

Armed men were at the back door, barging in and demanding money. The owner said at least one of the robbers knew the restaurant in and out.

Yusef Millenden has owned the Coney Island on Schoolcraft Avenue for six years, and he said he has had troubles from time to time. It was an hour after closing, around midnight, when three employees were leaving and trouble came knocking at the back door.

Police said the employees were robbed by four men armed with guns. But that wasn't enough for the robbers, who also robbed Millenden inside the restaurant.

Security video from next door shows a burgundy Trailblazer that was used as the getaway car. Millenden said he recognized one of the robbers as a regular customer.

The men got away with $1,800 from Millenden and another couple hundred dollars from the employees. They also stole the employees' cellphones.
