NOVI, Mich. – Big, much-needed repairs are in store for a 3-mile stretch of M-5 in Novi, although some say the $3.5 million dollar construction project could cause headaches for commuters in the area in the coming months.
The repairs will take place between 12 Mile Road and Pontiac Trail. To speed up the project, M-5 will close in one direction at a time, similar to what construction crews did during repairs on I-275 last summer.
The project will begin by closing southbound M-5 from Maple Road to 12 Mile Road. Once the southbound side is finished, the northbound lanes will close from 12 Mile to Pontiac Trail.
Drivers are expecting the closure to cause delays and add to their commute time.
During the closures, commuters can get by on nearby roads like Haggerty, Halstead, or Drake roads.
The project is expected to start sometime between late April and early May and should be completed in late June.
