Construction workers find body in rural Monroe County

Police investigate whether body belongs to missing Chelsea Bruck

CARLETON, Mich. – Police are investigating whether a body found near Briar Hill Road and East Newburgh Road in Monroe County is a 22-year-old woman who has been missing since October.

Construction workers found the body around 2 p.m. Friday in a wooded area near train tracks in the village of Carleton. Officers from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and Monroe County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene.

The construction crew was doing excavation work on a piece for property where a man is planning to build a house. The crew discovered the body while checking on a piece of equipment, police said.

The body is that of an adult woman. Police said it appears the body has been out there for months.

The body was removed Friday night. An autopsy will be performed in the next 24-48 hours, police said.

Police are trying to determine if the body belongs to Chelsea Bruck, a Maybee woman who has not been seen or heard from since leaving a large Halloween party Oct. 26 in rural Frenchtown Township. The wooded area in Carleton is about 9 miles from where Bruck was last seen.

Bruck was dressed as the comic villain Poison Ivy at the party.

Her disappearance has prompted searches in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
