Detroit mother whose kids were found in freezer loses rights to surviving children

Father of 1 surviving child also loses parental rights

DETROIT – The mom who murdered her 13-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son has lost the parental rights to her living children.

Mitchelle Blair is serving life in prison for killing her two children and keeping their bodies in a freezer.

On Monday, a judge decided Blair has lost parental rights for her two surviving children. Judge Edward Joseph says there is enough reason to terminate her rights to her 8-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter.

Meanwhile, Steven Berry, who is the father of the surviving 8-year-old boy, also has lost his parental rights. The 18-year-old's father, Alexander Dorsey, has retained his parental rights. The judge said Dorsey gets to retain those rights because it means his daughter will get two years of services from the court instead of one.
