DETROIT – Artrina Surles, 17, said her family had planned to attend the fireworks in Detroit Monday night, but were instead forced to rush her mother to a hospital after she was shocked by power lines that fell on her when a small plane crash landed in their east side neighborhood.
In an interview with Local 4, Surles said her mother, 38-year-old Theresa Surles, was outside their apartment building at Cooper and Shoemaker streets when the crash happened.
Artrina Surles said she heard a commotion and was first shocked to see a plane in the middle of the street, but then saw her mother lying on the ground.
Frantic family members tried to revive the mother of six by administering CPR, but she had to be taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital.
Artrina Surles said her mother suffered a heart attack and is in critical condition, unable to breathe on her own.
