Daydreaming while driving more dangerous than texting, study says

Numerous studies and real-life examples have shown that texting while driving is both stupid and dangerous.

But other attention-grabbers are even deadlier than thumb-tapping messages: fantasizing about a hot barista or imagining what your dream job would be. A new study has found that daydreaming is responsible for more traffic fatalities than any other distraction.

The Erie Insurance Group discovered that drivers "lost in thought" were five times more likely to be involved in a fatal accident than ones using an electronic gadget.

It found that in fatal crashes attributed to distracted drivers, 62 percent were the result of someone daydreaming compared with 12 percent linked to phone use.
