Former suspect released from jail after charges dropped in Sgt. Collin Rose murder case

Charges against Deangelo Davis dropped

DETROIT – Deangelo Davis was released from jail Wednesday after the charges against him in Wayne State University Sgt. Collin Rose's murder case were dropped.

Davis, 31, was arrested Nov. 22 and charged with shooting and killing Rose just off of Wayne State's campus. He was charged Nov. 25 with first-degree murder, felony firearm, murder of a police officer, felony firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.

But the charges against Davis were dropped after surveillance video revealed Davis was in a local business at the time of the shooting, sources close to the investigation said.

"All murder charges against DeAngelo Davis will be dismissed today," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "He is no longer a suspect at this time. As you can imagine, the officer's from the task force, including the Michigan State Police and the Detroit Police Department, have been working diligently and literally, literally, around the clock along with members of my office on this case."

Davis was released around 6:45 p.m. from the Wayne County Jail.

"None of us want to compromise the direction this investigation is going," Worthy said.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said his investigators have not stopped working to find Rose's shooter.
