Dearborn Heights woman killed while crossing Michigan Avenue

Driver who hit victim stopped at scene, police said

DEARBORN, Mich. – A 57-year-old Dearborn Heights woman was killed Tuesday morning when she was hit by a car on Michigan Avenue, police said.

The woman was walking across Michigan Avenue, contrary to the red light, to catch a bus, police said.

She was hit by a 47-year-old Woodhaven woman who was on Michigan Avenue going through the green light at Outer Drive, police said.

The Dearborn Heights woman was pronounced dead at Beaumont Hospital.

The other driver was not hurt.

Police said their preliminary investigation reveals alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.

"This is a tragic situation and our condolences go out the families involved.  With that being said, I cannot stress the importance of obeying traffic safety laws, statistics have shown compliance to traffic safety laws will mitigate these types of situations," said Chief Ronald Haddad.
