Detroit driver battles illegal dumping between rides

DETROIT – A man who frequently works as a Detroit tour guide and as a driver for the ride service Lyft  is battling blight in between rides.

Kevin MacDonald says he’s very familiar with the streets of Detroit.

“Out of the 144 square miles of Detroit, I've been on every street,” said Macdonald, who has worked as a cab driver in the city for nearly 30 years.

MacDonald says he has noticed problems in neighborhoods getting worse, not better despite efforts to clear blight from city neighborhoods.

“Oh yeah that’s a daily thing day and night,” MacDonald said “They never got cleaned up just left there!”

MacDonald say's he's documenting the dump sites he finds adding the city has made little to no effort to clean up the sites.

One of the dump sites used to be a two-story home that burned down over a year ago.

MacDonald says he's going to start using the city's app called 'Improve Detroit', which lets residents take a photo of problem areas so the city can investigate.
