Detroit firetruck targeted in paintball attack

Incident happened near where another paintball shooting took place

DETROIT – Local 4 News first showed video last week of a 22-year-old Detroit man armed with a paintball gun who fired at a road crew on Detroit's east side.

Local 4 News has learned there's more to the story, including an attack on a Detroit firetruck.

Viewers spotted at least three crimes in progress in the video: the shooting of the paintballs at the road crew, the baby girl in the back seat not properly strapped in and the driver showing off what he said was marijuana while he's behind the wheel.

Detroit police said since the road crew never made a complaint, there's no victim in the case, so police never went after the men for the paintball attack.

Now, Local 4 News has learned there is a new victim in these paintball attacks: the Detroit Fire Department, specifically Squad 6 at Shoemaker Street and French Road.

A photo shows a Detroit fire engine covered in pink paint. The Detroit Fire Department said as firefighters were leaving an emergency, their truck was targeted by someone firing a paintball gun. It happened June 24 on Minden Street, near where the first paintball shooting took place.

The captain at Squad 6 on Shoemaker Street said his crew spent 90 minutes making a report with Detroit police, but they said they never heard back from police.

Detroit police said they see no record of a report being made.
