Detroit man charged in connection to Fairlane Mall shooting

DEARBORN, Mich. – A 22-year-old Detroit man is charged in connection to a shooting Monday inside Fairlane Mall in Dearborn.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Diente Tresan Watts was outside of a jewelry store in the mall when he robbed a 24-year-old Detroit man at gunpoint and took a pair of designer eye glasses. After Watts took the glasses reports of shots fired were called in to the police.

Watts is not accused of firing those shots. Police said the 24-year-old man also was armed. He is a concealed pistol license holder.

Customers and employees at the mall were placed under a shelter-in-place order for at least an hour Monday evening.

Watts was arrested Tuesday by Dearborn police officers. The case remains under investigation. Police have not announced any other arrests.

Watts was arraigned Friday afternoon on armed robbery, felony firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon charges. He received a $400,000 cash/surety bond. If released on bond, Watts is ordered to wear a GPS tether. His next court date is Dec. 4.
