DETROIT – A 45-year-old Detroit man faces involuntary manslaughter, child abuse and felony firearm charges in connection to the deadly shooting of a 13-year-old girl Tuesday evening in the man's home on Lappin Avenue.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says Ivan Berrien's 14-year-old son and his son's 13-year-old girlfriend were playing with Berrien's rifle when it discharged, striking the girl in the head. Cirla Bingham was pronounced dead at the home.

Bingham and her boyfriend were at the home with her two younger brothers and another child. The younger children all are between 5 and 7 years old. The Prosecutor's Office says Berrien allegedly left the home to pick up a pizza, leaving the children alone without adult supervision. That's when the shooting happened.

Detroit police called it a tragic accident.

Berrien is charged with involuntary manslaughter, child abuse second degree, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm. He was arraigned Thursday and is scheduled to be back in court next week.
