By continuing the three-day campaign that mobilizes the community to watch over neighborhoods, the DFD have successfully address a major issue in the city. Efforts involve volunteers patrolling the streets, officers enforcing curfews and residents being instructed to leave lights on and their curbs clear of refuse containers and bulk items until the next morning.

According to the DFD report, structural fires have maintained a steady decline since the record high of 800 fires that were reported in 1984. Since then fires have plummeted to 52 fires reported in 2015.

According to the Mayor’s Department of Neighborhoods, more than 6,000 volunteers registered to patrol the streets during the campaign, demonstrating their valuable role in "driving down the number of structure fires to a level comparable to any average day in Detroit."

With one day left of the three-day Angels' Night period, volunteers can still register by going on the city’s website or calling 313-224-4415.

The curfew has been lifted for tonight.

A second emergency ordinance prohibits the dispensing of fuel into portable containers and will be in effect until midnight tonight with the exception of emergency situations for those 18 years or older.
