Man arrested in connection to stepmom's death

Victim found dead early Wednesday morning

DETROIT – A 24-year-old Detroit man has been arrested in connection with his stepmother's death after her body was found in a home on the city's east side.

During a well-being check by police, the body of Ellen Aubrey, 57, body was found wrapped in a blanket in the basement of a home the 6000 block of Casmere Street. Sources said she had been strangled.

Neighbors told Local 4 they had last seen Aubrey on Sunday and had been asking the stepson where his stepmother was. He told them she was either gone or sick. He was seen leaving the area in the victim's car overnight and police tracked him to a gas station in Warren.

A short chase ensued Wednesday morning and the suspect and a woman who was with him were taken into custody. They have not yet been charged.

Neighbors said the stepson had a trouble past.

"He was in prison, rehab and everything. She did everything for him and for him to do this. It is heartbreaking," said one neighbor, who asked not to be identified.

Neighbors also said Aubrey worked as a nurse case manager at Henry Ford Hospital.
