Detroit Public Schools dismissing students early ahead of storms

DETROIT – The Detroit school district is dismissing students early on Wednesday ahead of impending storms.

The earliest dismissal will be at 12:40 p.m. and the last dismissal will be at 2:10 p.m.

All after-school programs and career technical programs have been canceled.

Full statement from DPS:

All Detroit Public Schools will dismiss two hours earlier than their scheduled bell times today, Sept. 10, to allow students and staff to return home safely before the heavy thunderstorms expected this evening. In addition, after-school programs and afternoon Career Technical programs are cancelled. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook with predictions of thunderstorms and wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour. All staff, students and parents are urged to take precautions this afternoon. All students will be served lunch prior to leaving school. The earliest dismissal will be at 12:40 p.m. and the last dismissal will be at 2:10 p.m.
