Winfield is accused of using a sharp object to cut a 48-year-old woman on her face and chest as she walked  Dec. 12 on Cadieux Road near Charlevoix Street. The woman said she was cut three times on her chest, was cut on her wrist, face and suffered bruises on her arm.

She testified Monday that she thinks Winfield is the man who attacked her that night.

"I believe it was the defendant," she said.

She said the man originally approached her that night to use her cellphone. While they were on the sidewalk, he made two calls on her cellphone before giving it back to her. The woman said he then followed her and suddenly grabbed her, dragging her into a backyard.

"I said, 'Why are you doing this to me?'" she said.

She said the man never answered. She tried to fight back with her purse. The attack lasted for less than a minute. She said after the attack she was bleeding and "completely soaked in blood." She called 911 and spent the morning in the hospital.

"It took 2 hours to stitch my face ... it was a deep cut and I have nerve damage from that cut," she said. "It happened so fast."

Detective Michael Narduzzi, of Grosse Pointe Park police, also testified, saying Winfield was spotted in the area at the time of the crime.

Winfield is charged with assault with intent to murder. He is being held in jail on a $1 million bond. He has been bound over to stand trial in this Grosse Pointe Park case.

Meanwhile, Winfield already was being held in the Wayne County Jail on a $1 million bond for a Dec. 30 attack on Radnor Street in Detroit. He's accused of breaking into a home and stabbing a 39-year-old woman. In that case, he's charged with assault with intent to murder, first-degree home invasion and assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig has called Winfield a suspect in a string of sexual assaults on the city's east side.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said he is also a person of interest in another attack on 17-year-old Ge'Naye Washington on Jan. 7. Washington was hit in the head during an attack by a man who broke into her home on Radnor Street. She died this week.
