Detroit transit officer not guilty in fatal shooting
(Tim Pamplin, WDIV Local 4)
DETROIT – A jury has found a Detroit Transit center officer not-guilty in the 2013 fatal shooting a man outside a gas station.
Robert Tyus was charged with manslaughter and felony firearm in the death of 26-year-old Jordan West-Morson.
A jury on Thursday found him not-guilty on both counts.
It was alleged that on May 1, 2013, West-Morson was at the gas station on East 8 Mile Road selling CDs when he got into a verbal argument with Tyus, who identified himself as a Detroit transit officer.
The argument escalated into a fist fight and at some point Tyus drew a gun, firing one shot at West-Morson.
West-Morson died.
