Detroit's Fisher Building to go to auction

Albert Kahn building will also be up for auction

DETROIT – The golden tower that lights up the New Center area in Detroit is about to get new ownership.

In a statement, the Farbman Group said it is walking away from the Fisher and Albert Khan buildings -- which are in foreclosure.

"It has been an honor to look after the Fisher and Albert Kahn buildings for the past 14 years and we wish the next owner all the best as they care for these iconic assets and their bright future."

A new owner will likely be found through an auction this summer.

Inside the Fisher Building, there are longtime tenants, such as Pure Detroit, that have been using the space for business and weekend tours.

"I think we're excited about what's gonna come next, you know what I mean? It's obviously a historic building and I think maintaining it can be challenging," said Pure Detroit spokesman Ryan Hooper.

The building is made from 51 kinds of marble from 26 countries and opened in 1928.
