Doctors mystified by condition of woman found unconscious on side of road

PONTIAC, Mich. – Stephanie Lynn Yeider's boyfriend was shocked when he learned his girlfriend is under quarantine inside McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac.

Doctors and staff are taking every precaution, wearing masks and gloves and sealing the area off, because the 38-year-old Waterford woman has yet to regain consciousness.

After multiple tests, doctors still have no idea what's wrong with her.

"She's kind of out of it and she says she hasn't taken anything but I beg to differ," a 9-1-1 caller said Friday when they saw a woman stumbling along Andersonville Road. "She's out of it puking, foaming, need someone soon."

The woman collapsed and vomited and was rushed to the hospital.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office released her photo on Monday because they couldn't identify her over the weekend. A Facebook post to her boyfriend, John Lankford, from someone who recognized her solved the first mystery.

But the woman still hasn't woken up and she's not breathing on her own. The only drug her system is a small level of Xanax.

So now the mystery is, what's wrong with her?

"The medical community is perplexed," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. "It's a bit of a mystery."

Yeider has two sons, ages 17 and 20.

Lankford visited Yeider on Monday and tried to get a message to her.

"I told her that I missed her and that I loved her very much and that I hope she is doing better soon," he said. "I got no response really."
