It is unclear if the woman lives in the home or elsewhere. According to neighbors, the woman lives down the street but keeps animals and other items there.

The woman tried entering the blaze to help her animals, but the smoke was too thick.

There were 30 to 40 cats that died in the inferno, according to police. The few cats that survived the fire were taken to the vet.

Due to how fast the fire progressed, Detroit police are investigating the incident as arson.
