DETROIT – Twenty-five 2013 Chevy Caprice police scout cars and were donated to the Detroit Police Department on Wednesday.
The new cars are now available and ready to patrol the neighborhoods of Detroit. The 25 vehicles are in addition to the 72 scout cars which were released periodically throughout the year. Two Dodge Durango's which were purchased by the City of Detroit for the Departments K-9 Unit were also released.

Beginning Monday, April 14th, DPD will pilot the Tasor Axon Flex Body-Worn Camera and Taser Body System Camera, in their 2nd Precinct as part of a 20 day study at no cost to the department or city. The Tasor Axon Flex Body-Worn Camera is a cutting edge technology designed to capture video and audio evidence from the officer's perspective.
Officers participating in this program will perform their assigned duties with the body camera affixed to his or her person for recording of their daily activities. Data captured by the equipment will be uploaded to a secure cloud-based website for quick retrieval and sharing of critical information.
In effort to service the community more efficiently, Detroit Chief of Police, James E. Craig has placed more officers into the community while adding 67 civilians into jobs that were previously performed by police officers. Thirty-four are Emergency Service Operators and 33 are Emergency Police Dispatchers. These civilians have gone through vigorous training to ensure complete knowledge of their entity.
