DETROIT – DTE Energy is reporting 21,000 customers are without power due to high winds in southeast Michigan.
The utility company said a large concentration of the outages is in the Waterford Township area. Strong storms with high winds and hail have been moving through the area.

Several schools within the Waterford School District are without power, according to the district:
"Grayson, Schoolcraft, Pierce, Mason, Kettering, Kingsley Montgomery School and Waterford Village (Michigan Works) are all out of power. Kingsley Montgomery School is operating on a backup generator. We are also experiencing telephone outages at the same buildings. At Crary, an electric pole has snapped and DTE is on site. There is still electricity, but we have rerouted buses for the Life Tracks program to a different side of the building. Due to the timing of these simultaneous outages, we are unable to do any early release. Our buses are already on the road for our high school runs. All buildings will be released at their regular times. Please know that students are safe. We have running water, working bathrooms and emergency lighting. If we have any emergency issues, building staff will use their cell phones."
DTE does not have a timeframe for when power will be restored.
