Elderly woman dies in Northville Township fire

Fire happens at home on Jamestown Circle, witnesses say woman in her 90s lived alone

NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An elderly woman was killed Monday morning when a fire started in her Northville Township townhouse.

The fire happened at about 10 a.m. in the 18000 block of Jamestown Circle, which is off Northville Road between Seven and Six mile roads.

The woman, who was in her 90s, lived alone.

A witness said he tried to help the woman, who was well liked around the neighborhood.

"I heard smoke alarms going off. I pounded on her door but she wasn't answering," he said. "I couldn't go in there cause of the flames. I was scared."

He called the victim "wonderful" and very "personable."

Fire officials at the scene said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears it started in the kitchen.
