Elizabeth Warren to be keynote speaker at NAACP Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner

DETROIT – The Detroit branch of the NAACP announced on Tuesday that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) will be the keynote speaker at the 62nd annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner.

Rev. Wendall Anthony, president of the Detroit branch of the NAACP, said Warren was chosen because of her history of caring for people.

“Regardless of their status in life, she has been their champion,” Anthony said.

He noted Warren is a consumer protection advocate, active in the financial oversight area of Congress and active in health, education and aging issues.

The NAACP also announced who will be receiving awards at the dinner including James Weldon Johnson (Lifetime Achievement Awardee), Ida B. Wells (Freedom & Justice Awardee), and Mary Church Terrell (Freedom & Justice Awardee).

The dinner is Sunday, April 23, at Cobo Center.
