Metro Detroit theaters show 'The Interview'

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Looking to catch "The Interview" on Christmas day?

Theaters few and far between will be showing the controversial film across the Detroit area. Instead, Emagine Canton will be showing the film a little bit later, but for free.

"We're opening the film on New Year's Eve, December 31st, and we'll be showing it at Emagine Canton ... for free," said Paul Glantz, CEO of Emagine Theatre.

Glantz said for Emagine the decision to show the film is not about raking in the dough, but about upholding our rights.

"I think it's the right thing to do. I don't think we can be intimidated as a country by a foreign nation," he said.

In fact, Emagine is set to lose $15,000 a week by not releasing the film as originally planned before the hacking threats. Movie-goers agree: seeing "The Interview" should be our choice.

"I personally probably wouldn't go see it, just because I have no interest in it, but I think people should be able to see and they should go and support America's right for freedom of speech," said Jen Dreher, of Royal oak.

If you don't want to wait, Sony released "The Interview" on Google Play, YouTube and Microsoft Xbox Video on Wednesday for a $5.99 rental fee.

However, if paying nothing to see it sounds better, Emagine Canton is the place to be. Still, even a week from now, security still will be a top concern.
