DETROIT – You may have heard of networking -- a great way to meet people, swap opportunities and share ideas. But have you ever heard of Networking Out?
After work, a group of Detroit professionals get out of their stuffy suits and network to meet each and workout to get fit.
It's the brainchild of three passionate people who are determined to fight obesity, promote health lifestyles, connect people and be part of a movement to rebuild Detroit.
RTT stands for "Run This Town." It's part of Networking Out.
It was founded by Wayne State law student Shawn Blanchard, attorney Terrence Thompson and former Wayne State football player and education Armond Harris -- a trio of Detroiters who connected themselves through networking.
"It was coined after the concept of networking out. So, you're networking with professional people and aspiring professionals," said co-founder Shawn Blanchard.
They created a Facebook group, Run This Town, last summer to find people to jog along the Detroit RiverWalk.
Dozens of people came out, so they kept it up every Tuesday all summer until they reached more than 200 people.
When the weather changed, they moved their workouts inside to Youthville in Midtown.
The group is racially diverse, all shapes and sized, different fitness levels and a multitude of professionals -- doctors, lawyers, teachers, bankers, entrepreneurs, students and more.
