Eviction crew empties Detroit home where children's bodies were found in freezer

DETROIT – An eviction process was underway Tuesday at the Detroit home where two children's bodies were found in a freezer on March 24.

The bodies of Stoni Ann Blair and Stephen Gage Berry first were found by court officers who went to the apartment that day to serve an eviction.

The mother, Mitchelle Blair, was arraigned Thursday on child abuse charges. Prosecutors say she could face murder charges. She is being held on a $1 million bond.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said Friday autopsies showed the children died from blunt force trauma and thermal injuries. Authorities say they believe Stoni and Stephen died about two years ago, and that she was 13 and he was 9 when it happened.

On Tuesday, items including six TVs, a computer and a piano were removed from the apartment, which is part of the Martin Luther King Apartments in the 800 block of St. Aubin Street.

Funeral planned for siblings:

A joint service for Stoni and Stephen will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 13 at Greater Grace Temple (2350 W. Seven Mile Road in Detroit). The Ellis Funeral Home is handling the service.
