False fire alarm leads to temporary evacuation of FAA tower at Detroit airport

Operations return to normal after delay

DETROIT – The Federal Aviation Administration tower at Detroit Metro Airport was temporarily evacuated around 8 p.m. Monday after a false fire alarm, officials said.

The Airport Authority Fire Department investigated the incident and determined it was a false alarm.

FAA staff members are returning to the tower.

The evacuation caused a ground stop at the Detroit airport, but the ground stop has been lifted and operations are returning to normal after the delay.
