Family seeks witnesses to woman's deadly hit-and-run in Westland

WESTLAND, Mich. – People who knew Marcia Japowicz gathered Tuesday at a Taco Bell in Westland for candlelight vigil.

She had worked with the restaurant chain for 26 years. The 53-year-old was killed Monday night while walking to work.

Police say she stopped about 8 p.m. in the middle of Wayne Road -- in the turning lane -- when a driver on the way to KFC hit her and knocked her into the northbound lanes of traffic.

Police say the first driver stopped but Japowicz was hit by at least four other vehicles that did not stop.

On Tuesday, family members placed a memorial in front of the restaurant. They're hoping someone will come forward with more information.

The family has set up this GoFundMe page for anyone interested in donating for funeral expenses.
