Police looking for black Impala with silver trim

DETROIT – Police are investigating a shooting in Boston-Edison where a father was killed and a mother was injured with their two children in the vehicle Thursday night.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevards and Glynn Court at about 7 p.m. Thursday. A black Impala fired shots at the family driving a conversion van. The vehicle crashed into a pole after the father was shot.

Derick Blanton, 27, was killed. His 19-year-old girlfriend was shot in the finger and taken to the hospital. She has since been released.

The two children in the vehicle, a 1-year-old girl, and 6-year-old boy, were injured in the impact of the crash. They were both rushed to the hospital.

The 1-year-old girl is expected to be okay. The 6-year-old boy is still receiving treatment and his condition is unknown.

Investigators believe this was a targeted hit. Blanton witnessed the fatal shooting of his best friend in March and authorities believe the same gunman likely shot Blanton.

“We are suffering way too many tragedies,” Detroit Police Capt. Elaine Miles said.
