Federal appeals court temporarily stays enforcement of same-sex marriage ruling Michigan's same-sex marriage ban ruled unconstitutional by Federal judge Friday
DETROIT – The Federal appeals court is temporarily staying the enforcement of the same-sex marriage ruling in Michigan until at least Wednesday, March 26.
"A temporary stay has been granted until Wednesday, March 26, 2014," said a spokesperson from Attorney General Bill Schuette's office. "We anticipate that the 6th Circuit will issue a permanent stay, just as courts have ruled in similar cases across the country."
As of around 4:17 p.m. Saturday, the ruling that same-sex couples can get married in Michigan has been put on hold.
Before the announcement that temporarily stayed the ruling, Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum today issued 57 same-sex marriage licenses and performed 30 ceremonies at the historical courthouse in downtown Mason.
A Federal judge ruled Friday that Michigan's same-sex marriage ban was unconstitutional.
