Feds offer reward for Davison gun store break-in

Dozens of guns stolen from 5 gun stores in 4 local communities

DAVISON, Mich. – Federal officials are offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a recent Davison gun store break-in.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the National Shooting Sports Foundation announced they are offering a $5,000 reward.

According to ATF, a minivan was driven into the doorway of Williams Gun Sight Company at 7389 Lapeer Road on April 23 at 12:51 a.m.

Five males with masks and gloves were caught on surveillance video entering the store and stealing 35 semiautomatic pistols and revolvers.

Officials said four people have been arrested so far in the investigation, but several firearms are still missing.

The Davison gun shop isn't the only one that's been hit. Four others have been robbed in the past 10 days, amounting to dozens of firearms stolen.

Last week two gun stores in Livonia and another in Dearborn were hit, while this weekend a Frenchtown Township gun store was robbed.

“We take this crime very seriously. The theft of firearms from licensed gun dealers is a top priority for ATF,” said S. Robin Shoemaker, special agent in charge of ATF’s Detroit Field Division. “These firearms are now on the street with the strong potential of being used in violent crimes when they are sold to or end up in the wrong hands.  Through our experience, we know that tips from the public can result in the recovery of those stolen firearms.”

Anyone with information about the gun thefts is asked to call ATF at 800-ATF-GUNS
