Ferndale police: Woman dies after walking into traffic on Woodward Avenue

Witnesses tell police 70-year-old victim was crossing against red light

FERNDALE, Mich. – A 70-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when she walked into traffic on Woodward Avenue in Ferndale.

Police said witnesses told them the victim, a Ferndale resident, was crossing Woodward Avenue near College Avenue against a red light when she was nearly hit by several passing cars before eventually being struck by a 2003 Buick.

The victim was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, but pronounced dead.

The driver of the Buick, an 80-year-old resident of North Caroline, was questioned and has been released by police.
