Fire erupts at 555 building in Birmingham

Firefighters detain, extinguish flames at 14-story building

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – A fire was reported Thursday morning at the 555 building in Birmingham.

Crews from multiple fire departments battled the blaze at the building on Woodward Avenue.

The building was evacuated and no injuries were reported.

The northbound and southbound lanes of Woodward Avenue were closed. The northbound lanes of Old Woodward Avenue also were closed from Maple Road to Lincoln Street. The road has reopened to traffic.

It is unclear how the fire started.

The building was under construction for a remodeling project.
