WARREN, Mich. – Mayor Jim Fouts sent a letter Wednesday to Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette asking for his office to conduct an investigation into allegations of illegal dumping at the Freedom Hill County Park landfill.

Fouts alleged that Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel allowed a contractor to illegally dump road excavation materials at the landfill without permission to do so from the South Macomb Disposal Authority or the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
The Warren mayor took to Facebook on Nov. 16, hinting at an environmental disaster and saying it “could be a mini version of what happened in Flint.” The next morning, Fouts was unreachable and Hackel held a news conference, calming the public and ridiculing Fouts.
