Tourai Motassin said her daughter was sitting at the front of the restaurant doing homework on her laptop when a suspicious man entered, pretending he was about to order.

"He went down and he pushed my daughter in the stomach," said Motassin.

Motassin said the man punched the girl in the stomach so hard it made her vomit, but the little girl wasn't having it. Her mother said she fought back.

"She wanted to defend herself," said Motassin.

But the heavyset dark-skinned man who is about 6 feet 1 inch tall overpowered the girl, knocking her to the ground. He kicked and stomped on her repeatedly.

The man got away with the 11-year-old's laptop, but police are on his tracks.

Meanwhile, the girl is in the hospital with her family at her side.
