Girl surprises Detroit police officers with lunch

A 9-year-old girl gave officers at the Detroit Police Department a heartwarming surprise Saturday afternoon, after she brought lunch to everyone at the station.

Samya Walker, who turns 9 on Sunday, says she felt bad about what happened in Dallas and wanted to cheer up the officers with lunch in the afternoon.

“After I saw what was on TV, about the Police in Texas, I wanted to feed the police too. I want everybody to know that all lives matter.” said Walker.

Samya was honored the ‘officer of the day’ award by the Detroit Police Department  and officers also surprised her with a few special birthday presents as a way to say thank you.

"She's giving back to us when we really need it" said Sergeant Darrel McClendon

Before heading over to the precinct, Samya spent her morning passing out lunches to the homeless on the Cass Corridor.
