GOP candidates campaign on Mackinac Island

MACINAC ISLAND, Mich. – Some major GOP candidates in the race for the White House are on Mackinac Island over the weekend for the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference.

In attendance at the conference are Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Rand Paul and Carly Fiorina.

Saturday's events were supposed to begin with a breakfast featuring Scott Walker, but he did not attend the conference due to inclement weather.

Cruz and Kasich spoke at the lunch.

Cruz said that after he wins the nomination, he plans to campaign strongly in Michigan. "We're going to win Michigan in the general election and we're going to win it the same way Ronald Reagan won nationally," said Cruz.

Kasich spoke about what he believes is a major problem in D.C. "There's one set of relationships we need to be rebuilding," Kasich said. "Relationships between Republicans and Democrats who have somehow forgotten they're there to serve America and not their political party."

A dinner is planned for Saturday evening with Fiorina and Paul giving speeches.

Jeb Bush delivered the key note speech Friday night.

Donald Trump and Ben Carson, current poll leaders, are not attending the conference.
