Gordie Howe's health declining after second stroke

Howe played over 1,700 NHL games

DETROIT – Gordie Howe's family says the former hockey star's health is declining after he suffered a second stroke last week.

The 86-year-old's family is trying to make him as pain-free as possible as his health continues to worsen. Detroit's community is hoping for the best for Mr. Hockey as his struggle continues.

Back in October, Howe suffered a massive stroke, but his condition seemed to be improving. The stroke led to other health complications like chronic back pain, dementia and high blood pressure, which have taken a large toll on Howe. He has been staying with his daughter and her husband in Texas.

Howe is considered one of the greatest players in hockey's history, as he played in more than 1,700 games during a career that spanned over five decades in the National Hockey League. He scored over 800 goals en route to winning four Stanley Cups.

The Howe family says they're thankful for the well-wishes, prayers and support during the 86-year-old's struggles.
